Shri Gulshan Suman has been exposed to music since childhood; his first Guru was his uncle Giani Gurbachan Singh, who was disciple of Famous Ustad Malang of Punjab, who was guru of Ustad Alla Rakha, the father of Ustad Zakir Hussain (famous Tabla player).
Then he started learning systematic Hindustani Classical Music (Vocal) first from Sh.Krishan Dutt Sharma of Banaras Gharana for about two-three years. Thereafter he continued his sangeet shiksha with Ustad Sarfaraz Hussain Khan of Rampur Sahaswan Gharana for advanced knowledge in “Tarana” style of singing. He is also given light music (Ghazals) programmes from AIR & Doordarshan. As he is working in Airports Authority of India as Asstt. General Manager (ATC), which is transferable job. When he was in Mumbai on transfer , he came in touch with Swami Parthasarathy, who is imminent scholar of Vedanta Philosophy, it changed his life all together, his view point towards life changed totally. He says-Vedanta tells us about the “art of living”, means “How to live life”, normally we people are existing in this world, we do not know how to live life in a peaceful and effective way, peace for ourselves and effective way for society, means we should be peaceful while living in this world and my existence should be beneficial for the society.
Earlier he used to sing Ghazals, filmy, non filmy songs for mostly for enjoyment only but now he prefers to sing bhajans. During his college time, he has won many prizes in Inter-College and University music competitions. He used to sing songs of Mohd. Rafi, but he never tried to copy Mohd. Rafi. Rather he developed his own voice. Spiritualism and Devotion made him not only a good singer but also a good human being. He has composed many bhajans, some of the bhajans are in the First CD.
