SCOPE OF B.Sc. FORESTRY
Agriculture has a wide scope but Forestry - It is also a branch of agriculture. If you are into adventure then this course is for you. Coming to the main point, if someone's instinct suggest for Forestry and wild life then after graduation in forestry one can go on joining PG course in premier institutes like Forest Research Institute, Wildlife Institute of India, Indian Institute of Forest Management. Post graduation in this course would add star in your forestry degree.
Forestry graduates in the Forest Department of Indian Government. You can attend many of the Central and State government exams which are being conducted. They can be part of the recruitment procedures in various central government departments. The forestry graduates can attend in the UPSC exams for going in to services such as IFS, IAS, IPS, etc. as well as the State Public Service Commission Examinations.
For students jobs are available in forest industries, such as Pulp and Paper mills, Plywood and Timber industries, where they can achieve the post of Manager after one or two years on their hard work and can earn the salary of 50000/month. In case of private sector jobs, some job posts available such as plantation and resort manager, forest product marketing, forest products purchasing manager, Research and Development sector etc.
There are jobs for forestry graduates like in Paper companies (Plantation and Raw Material)- preferred IIFM grads, Agri & Plantation related companies like DS Group (Rajnigandha fame), reputed NGOs like FES, JBF, WOTR, AKRSP, GIZ, etc. The candidates who have done their graduation in forestry can opt for specialization in Agro forestry, Silviculture, Forest products, Tree improvements, wood science & technology, etc.
The number of seats in any Agricultural University or College is far more than the number of B.Sc. Forestry seats and the number of Agriculture graduates is more than the Forestry graduates. So there is more competition in case of agriculture as compared to forestry. Also in case of State or Central Government posts, if there is vacancy, the eligibility criteria is B.Sc. Agriculture and Allied Sciences that means Forestry students are also eligible for those posts. But for Forestry jobs, only B.Sc. Forestry students are eligible. So there is a greater scope of B.Sc. Forestry.
