The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) is all set to perform some special rituals during the total lunar eclipse Friday. SJTA sources said a timetable has been finalised for performance of the special rituals. “The Mahasnana ritual of the presiding deities would be performed during the lunar eclipse. Moreover, the deities would be offered Khaikora (a prasad made from puffed rice) during the eclipse,” said an official of the SJTA. According to the official, the temple administration has planned to complete all routine rituals such as Bhogmandap, Mailam and Tadaplagi by 2.54 pm Friday. It would perform all special rituals during the eclipse that starts at 11.54 pm and will continue till 3.49 am July 28 (Saturday). “This is a rare lunar eclipse. People are advised not to cook food after 2.54 pm Friday,” said astrologer Baikuntha Nath Nayak, who is associated with the Samanta Chandra Sekhar almanac.
The Lunar eclipse Friday would be the longest of the 21st century. The celestial spectacle, which would be seen in its entirety from all parts of India, is to last for 1 hour and 43 minutes, the Ministry of Earth Science had said.
